Introducing Brooke (a.k.a human sunshine)

Every now and then you meet someone fleetingly and they leave a lasting impression on you. A certain sparkle remains imprinted on your brain and you have a feeling they’ll be part of your world somehow…Brooke is one of those people!

Yes, I’m known to love me some hyperbole…but Brooke is literally sunshine in human form. Not only is she energetic, compassionate and motivating, she’s also extremely skilled, strategic, and future focused. The ingredients we were looking for when hiring for our Safe Futures Coordinator.

Brooke works with the women in our programs to help them see that a brighter, safer, more financially secure future is within reach. She will help our participants to design what workforce participation looks like for them and help them to set and achieve their goals.

It’s an honour to introduce you to Brooke Haseldine.

Can you please tell us a little bit about you:

After travelling to 30 different countries and living out of a backpack for a year, I learned connection with other people’s value. Upon returning to Australia, I used this key learning in a Business Manager role working for one of Australia's top retailers to build strong relationships with First Nations groups and provide meaningful opportunities and connections within the WA community wherever I could. During this work I met the team at Lifeline WA, and it didn't take me long to know answering the phone when someone was facing their darkest moments was something I had to do. Shortly after dipping my feet in the Mental Health field and doing some volunteer work, I added a Psychology degree to my business degree and started ambassador work for Lifeline WA. Today I use this platform to inspire hope and encourage people to reach out whenever they are in need, for we are never alone, and there is always someone out there that truly cares. I am bubbly, energetic, and always up for a chat, so please say hello if you ever see me around!

Can you share what you love most about your Lifeline role:

I wear several different hats with Lifeline WA. Most importantly, I am a volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporter. I answer the phone when someone is in crisis and calls 13 11 14. Like many, I have lost loved ones to suicide so ensuring that no one has to face their darkest moments alone is so important to me. I love that I am an ambassador, which allows me the platform to break down the stigma about Mental Health and Suicide and ensure more people reach out for help if they are in crisis. Lastly, I am a Resourceful Mind trainer and work with employees in the mining sector to keep themselves, colleagues and loved ones safe.

Where would we find you outside of working and volunteering:

On an adventure, somewhere in nature, exploring new places with my beautiful border collie Isla, my friends or my family. At CrossFit, challenging myself to be the best version of myself physically and mentally. Heads down in a university textbook as I am studying a Double Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Commerce.

You envisage a world for survivors in which…

Survivors feel heard, seen, supported, and empowered and have the opportunity to fulfil the life they aspire to without barriers.

Your main goal in working with Mettle:

Ensure that every Mettle Participant has the confidence and skills to achieve their personal goals so not only can they survive but thrive.
